Moon Bloodgood could pass for a Native American (even though she's not), but her utterance of phrases like "I'm not gonna leave you behind" hurts the image. Karl Urban, for example, looks kind of fearsome, but speaking ruins the effect. Things become tedious during the film's lengthy down times, when we're subjected to what passes for dialogue being uttered by actors who would impress more if they didn't say anything. Pathfinder, which is a remake of the 1987 Norwegian film Veiviseren, is barely tolerable during the action sequences, even though the camera moves around so much it can be difficult to figure out what's going on. Ghost is accompanied by two companions: Pathfinder (played by Russell Means, who got lost here on his way to The Last of the Mohicans) and his daughter (Moon Bloodgood), a.k.a. That's where the hacking, slashing, and chasing begins. Eventually, his countrymen return, led by Gunnar (Clancy Brown) and bent on ethnic cleansing. He is raised by the locals and becomes a great warrior. Ghost (Karl Urban) is a Norwegian child left behind when the Vikings first visit the North American continent some 1100 years ago. The premise is borrowed from Tarzan with Native Americans standing in for the apes and the Vikings replacing the English. Someone should remind director Marcus Nispel that there's a difference between making a music video and a feature film.
PATHFINDER MOVIE VIKINGS MOVIE
To add insult to injury, the movie is filmed in a way that makes it seem like the camera has epilepsy and the color desaturation renders everything murky. Produced by:Marcus Nispel, Mike Medavoy, Arnold W.Pathfinder feels like one of those generic '80s action films where there's plenty of violence with no suspense, lots of stunt work but no excitement, and a cast of characters so poorly developed that it's easier to care about the background scenery. But as it turns out, it is a massive turd: so all is forgiven. I shudderĬalling Pathfinder a massive turd is a very strong, negative assessment to make on the movie. I also understand that Marcus Nispel is helming a new Conan the Barbarian movie, due next year.
PATHFINDER MOVIE VIKINGS FREE
Sadly, Pathfinder tries to ride on the successful coattails of 300 – a movie that profitably portrayed story free ass-kickery – but it cannot replicate the magic that the Frank Miller opus presented. “What’s that? The guy that just got brutally slain by the ‘Dragon People’ was supposed to be a main character? No shit!?” The story is non-existent, as is the character development, which leads me to just not give a giraffe’s nut-sack about anything that happens for the excruciating 99 minute running time: Years pass until another marauding Viking expedition (led by personal favourite Clancy Brown) shows up with evil intentions: as Vikings do.Īlthough pretty to look at, the main problem with Pathfinder lies with the fact that director Marcus Nispel, with his history of television commercials and music videos, treats this feature as just that – a music video. Set in a pre-Columbus North America (Vinland), Pathfinder (also a remake of the 1987 Norwegian flick of the same name) stars New Zealand thesp Karl Urban as Ghost abandoned as a child by his colony of Nordic Viking brethren and adopted by a Native American tribe, Ghost is raised as one of them but is clearly an outsider struggling to assimilate due to his appearance. Two – Everyone says I’m a really nice guy (someone said that once).īut then I watched Pathfinder: the Legend of the Ghost Warrior.I like movies too much to bag them, finding redemption in some of the most heinous atrocities captured on celluloid ( Teen Wolf FTW!).I have tried my best to avoid negative reviews on this site for two reasons: This article was published on the original Sorry I’m on 31/05/10.
